Ev: Gift of Encouragement

This Sunday's worship was very encouraging. The music that Tim, Matt, Jon and Elliot shared with all of us prepared our hearts for the worship of our Creator. It made me less nervous about sharing and also I thank God for people praying for me. After sharing, a Christian man and woman come up and thanked me for sharing that God did not promise to keep us from suffering and pain but that He did promise to walk with us through them. It encouraged them and after talking for a while, their sharing encouraged me. It hit me that here we were half way around the world and sharing the greatness of God and encouraging each other's walk in the Lord. All of a sudden the Body of Christ seemed so much bigger and more real. I also got to talk to a retired English teacher who had been going to TMK but had not accepted Jesus as Savior yet. We had a wonderful time just talking and we exchanged email addresses. I pray that she will email and we can continue our relationship.

This day's devotional verse was Galatians 6:9-10:

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."

It reminds me that our actions are not dependent on results but on obedience in faith. We do what we know God wants us to do and if we are perservere, God is faithful and at the "proper time we will reap a harvest." There is great hope in that thought. Also in that same verse God encourages us to do good to everyone, especially those in the body of Christ - here we are "doing good" to the Japanese believers and here they are "doing good" to us!! God is so good.
